IDAHO STATE VOTER REGISTRATION SYSTEM

As you know, scanning the old-style voter registration slips into the system can be a bit more challenging than the newer style cards. We have defined the settings to be able to capture the signature on those cards and are in the process of setting up those preferences for each county. One thing that can make it easier is to paste slips onto larger pieces of paper. However, we DO NOT suggest pasting them onto new voter registration cards due to the expense of the printed voter registration cards. Our suggestions are as follows:

a) Old cards can be copied onto regular 8 1/2 x 11 inch paper, which can then be cut in half. This will make the paper size comparable to the current voter registration cards. When copying the card be sure to place the old voter registration card so that it will print in the upper left hand corner of the paper so that the signature will appear in the exact same place on each copy. This way the form 1 setup in the batch scanning can be set to crop the signature while saving the image of the voter registration card. IMPORTANT: Bar Code labels need to be affixed to the cut copy of the voter registration card prior to batch scanning the copies. The bar code is what the system reads to index or assign the image of the voter registration card and the image of the signature to the appropriate voter. Once the bar code is attached, the copies of the voter registration cards can then be scanned using the feeder tray.

b) If you desire to paste the old cards onto cardstock, our suggestion is to use plain cardstock cut to the same size as the current voter registration cards. As stated above, we DO NOT suggest pasting the old voter registration cards onto new cards, as this will use up the current supply of new voter registration cards and is quite costly. You can contact your local printer and purchase cardstock cut to the same size as the new voter registration cards or you can contact Betsie Kimbrough at [email protected] or at 888-808-4192 to make arrangements to purchase and receive cardstock from Caxton Printers.
