• Be an elector of the state of Idaho
• Have been a legal resident of the state of Idaho for at least 2 continuous years immediately preceding the election
• Been in good standing as an active or judicial member of the Idaho state bar for at least 2 continuous years immediately preceding such election
• Have held a license to practice law or held a judicial office in 1 or more jurisdictions for at least 10 years preceding such election

• File a C1: Appointment and Certification of Political Treasurer (C1 Form) with the Secretary of State's Office for campaign finance reporting.
  • The C1 Form must be filed prior to:
    • Announcing candidacy or the intent to run for office
    • Accepting donations
    • Spending money on the campaign

• First Day to File- February 26, 2018
  • Declarations and Petitions will not be accepted until February 26, 2018.
  • Any filings received prior to February 26th will be returned to the candidate.
• Last Day to File - March 9, 2018 by 5 PM in the Secretary of State's Office
  • Declarations and Petitions received after 5 PM mountain time are late and will not be accepted for filing.

Withdrawal Deadlines:

• Primary Election - March 23, 2018
• General Election - September 7, 2018

Candidates have two options when filing for placement on the Primary Election Ballot:

1. File a Declaration of Candidacy and pay the $300 filing fee.
2. File a Declaration of Candidacy and nominating petitions, containing the signatures of at least 1,000 registered electors of the state verified prior to submission.

The Judicial Filing Packet has the necessary forms, an information sheet and instructions for completing the forms.

Signature Collection - Each petition signature sheet must:

• Contain the signatures of qualified electors from only ONE county.
• Be verified by the County Clerk prior to being filed with the Secretary of State.
